Why I built this
By Michael McAteer ·
I like finding a little possibility in an ordinary place.
For years, I’ve drawn over photographs of buildings, imagining characters on blank walls and unexpected details in familiar settings. Living Murals grew from a simple question: could I give other people a way to play with that idea?
I wanted families, friends and communities to make something fun on their phones without downloading an app, creating an account or paying to get started.
With Living Murals, you can add illustrated decorations to your camera view, try a themed photo-booth background, and save the result. Move things around. Make them bigger. Get everyone into the picture. See what makes you smile.
I’m Michael McAteer, the illustrator and creative director behind the project. I’ve used AI-assisted development to help bring it into the browser, and I’m continuing to improve it through testing and feedback.
The photo tools process your pictures and videos on your device rather than uploading them to our servers. The free experiences are open to everyone, with no credit card or sign-up required.
My hope is simple: a little more creative play, shared with the people around you.
